Baltimore DPW Reports Sanitary Overflow Due to a “Fatberg”

Turns out Baltimore has its own fatberg in its sewer systems – a congealed lump of fat, along with wet wipes and other items that do not break down in sewer systems. A massive plug of grease has been growing, far below the surface, in a midtown sewer main.

DPW Working to Address Shortened Water Bills

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works has become aware of water bills that were recently sent out with a shortened reading period. The shortened reads were caused by a glitch when a security patch was installed on the billing computer.

Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported at Charles and Lanvale Streets

On Thursday, Sept. 14, a sanitary sewer overflow occurred at North Charles and West Lanvale Streets. This overflow began at 12:30 p.m. and lasted for approximately two hours.  This is a structured overflow site which discharged an estimated 141,000 gallons into the Jones Falls.

New Rules for Stormwater Fee Credits Take Effect for Baltimore City

New rules are now in place for Baltimore’s stormwater fee and credit regulations. The new regulations make it easier to earn credits, and provide opportunities for some organizations to be exempt from paying the fee.

Routine stream sampling by Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) employees has found an underground release of sewage traced to a broken sewer pipe in the 2500 block of W. Lexington St.
