Sewer Overflows Occurred at the Patapsco Treatment Plant

The Department of Public Works today announced that two sanitary sewer overflows occurred at the Patapsco Treatment Plant.

There were no problems to report at Pumping Stations or Back River due to high flows and no danger to the community.

Overflows were as follows:

  • 185,000 gallons of primary effluent overflowed the # 3 clarifier tank
  • Approximately 3,500 gallons from the screen facility

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified of these events. For more information about health concerns as a result of the overflows, contact the Health Department at 410-396-4422.
 
The Department of Public Works is undertaking a $1 billion rehabilitation of the City’s sanitary system which will protect our urban streams and the Chesapeake Bay while preventing future sewer overflows.
