BALTIMORE, MD (February 13, 2013) – Valentine’s Day is a time to show you care about that special someone. You can also show your love for the environment through recycling. To make that easier, Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Alfred H. Foxx today announced that Baltimore City’s canary yellow 25 gallon recycling bins will be on sale at 50% off.  

Beginning February 14, 2013 until February 21, 2013, Baltimore residents can purchase the bins for $6 and receive a free “I (heart) Recycling” sticker. Smaller 18 gallon bins are also available at the regular price of just $5 and lids are $3.

The 50% discount on 25 gallon bins applies only to purchases from the DPW Solid Waste facility located at 111 Kane Street. Sale hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14 through Thursday, February 21. Bins are not available for purchase on Saturday and Sunday, or on Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 18, 2013.  

“On Valentine’s Day, we show our loved ones how much we care. This event gives us an opportunity to show love for our communities,” Foxx said.

Recycling benefits our environment and city, and is easy to do. So this Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to recycle your cards, gift boxes and aluminum chocolate wrappers.

As a reminder, residents do not need city-issued recycling bins to recycle. Paper bags, cardboard or plastic boxes and trash cans, labeled “recycling”, are all acceptable containers.
