Washington Boulevard Water Main
BALTIMORE, MD (December 30, 2013) – Department of Public Works crews continue working to restore water service to approximately 200 homes, one school and several businesses in Pigtown. A break occurred on a 20 inch water main late Sunday afternoon in the 1200 block of Washington Boulevard. This water line has been mostly shut down, but adjustments to valve closures continue in an attempt to reduce the area of low water pressure and total water outage.
Washington Boulevard remains closed in both directions as does Ostend Street at Washington Boulevard. Detours are posted and motorists are advised to avoid the area and obey road closures for their own protection and for the safety of our workers.
Those customers in the vicinity who have water may notice some cloudiness caused by the break. The water is safe but should be allowed to run until clear. Removing the aerator on the faucet will prevent sediment buildup and expedite this process.
Barring any unforeseen underground problems, it is expected that water can be restored overnight.
Citizens with questions or who need assistance should call 311.
