City DPW Reports Sanitary Sewer Overflow
BALTIMORE, MD (May 5, 2014) – The Baltimore City Department of Public Works announced that a sanitary sewer overflow originating at 900 Rutland Ave. released an estimated 29,950 gallons of sewage into the Baltimore Harbor last week.
The overflow was reported at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, and corrected Thursday, May 2, at 8:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Wilkens Avenue. Sand or gravel in the sewer line clogged the flow when heavy rains infiltrated the line, and the sewage flowed out of a manhole.
The DPW encourages residents to report suspected sewer overflows to 311. The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified of this event.
