Main Break at Chester Street, Eastern Avenue to Temporarily Interrupt Water Service
BALTIMORE (December 30, 2014) —The Baltimore City Department of Public Works announced today that work to repair a 6” water main break at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Chester Street is expected to temporarily interrupt water service for some 300 area homes and businesses. The shutdown is expected to start today at 6 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. on December 31.
The locations for the outages are : 2100-2200 E. Pratt St.; 100-400 S. Patterson Park; 2000-2300 Eastern Ave.; 400 S. Chester St.; 2100 Gough St.; 400 S. Collington St.; 2200 Choptank Ct. (rear of Bank Street); and 2200 Portugal St. (rear of Eastern Avenue).
More than 20 valves need to be turned off in order for DPW to complete this project. The ongoing water loss has caused reduced water pressure for some nearby residences and businesses.
There will be a total road closure for the 400 block of S. Chester Street between Bank Street and Eastern Avenue. Also, the westbound curb lane will be closed on Eastern Avenue at Chester Street.
Locations where water service is interrupted may experience discolored or cloudy water when service is restored. Once service is restored, it is beneficial to open a tap in the basement of the property and let the water run. Water should be clear within 5 to 10 minutes.
Citizens with questions or who need assistance should call 311.
