Water Main Progress on Gay Street at Saratoga Street
BALTIMORE, MD - Because of progress made overnight on the water main break on Gay Street at Saratoga Street, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works is able to open two lanes of Gay Street in time for morning rush hour traffic on Friday, Feb. 6. Motorists are still advised to use caution in the area and continue using alternate routes if possible.
Work will continue on the 16-inch main and valves following Friday evening rush hour. The section of Gay Street is likely to be closed again over the weekend so that work crews can secure a permanent solution.
Water service is slowly being restored to customers in the area. Repair work has been complicated by damage to the main, the close proximity of other underground utilities, and the concrete overlay at the site of the break.
Once water is restored customers should allow water to run until clear if there is any cloudiness.
Citizens with water-related questions or concerns can call 311 in Baltimore City; 410-396-5352 in Baltimore County.
