DPW Responds to Sanitary Sewer Overflow

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is responding to an ongoing sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) into the Herring Run Stream. The SSO is occurring in the 5100 block of Perring Parkway.

This sanitary sewer overflow is estimated to be more than 10,000 gallons, having started during the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 17. A clog in a 21-inch sanitary sewer mainline appears to be the cause of the SSO. The stream has been posted with warning signs.

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified.

Citizens are encouraged to avoid contact with urban streams due to possible pollution.

Baltimore City is in the construction phase of the $1 billion Consent Decree rehabilitation of our sewer infrastructure.
