Overcharged Sewer Main Spills on East Chase Street
BALTIMORE, MD -- Heavy rain during the afternoon and evening of Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, left a sewer main overcharged with water, which spilled out of a manhole at 1700 E. Chase St. The overflow was initially addressed at 6:45 p.m. and stopped at 9:30 p.m. An estimated 16,800 gallons of water and sewage overflowed.
Emergency warning signs were posted in the area, and crews cleaned up debris from the overflow.
The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified.
Citizens are encouraged to avoid contact with urban streams due to possible pollution. Baltimore City is in the construction phase of the $1 billion Consent Decree rehabilitation of our sewer infrastructure.
