The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will celebrate National Drive Electric Week on Sunday, September 11, 2016, with Electric Drive in the Park at the Howard P. Rawlings Conservatory. The conservatory is in Druid Hill Park at 3100 Swann Drive.  

The free event, which runs from noon until 5:00 p.m., will feature test drives of new affordable electric vehicles (EVs) such as the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Spark, Ford Focus, E-Golf and Kia Soul from local dealers. New electric bicycles from Baltimore Bike Share will be available to ride. Baltimore area electric vehicle owners will also be on hand to “pop the hood” and answer questions about their electric vehicles. 

National Drive Electric Week, September 10-18, 2016, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. 

DPW Director Rudy S. Chow said Baltimore stands at the forefront when it comes to installing electric chargers and promoting the use of sustainable electric vehicles. DPW’s Office of Sustainable Energy has helped install more than 100 EV chargers in the City, including Druid Hill Park. Last year during National Drive Electric Week the City installed a DC Fast Charger station on Lexington Street adjacent to City Hall. 

“The City encourages sustainable electric vehicles,” said Director Chow. “They help keep harmful tailpipe emissions out of our air, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.”
