JFX Lane Closures Overnight Friday to Allow for Water Main Repairs
Motorists on the Jones Falls Expressway (Interstate 83) are advised to watch for lane closures and detours near the Maryland Avenue overpass beginning Friday night, June 16. The closures are necessary to allow crews to repair a broken 10-inch water main located under the elevated portion of Maryland Avenue.
Detours go into effect Friday, June 16, at 8 p.m. The lane closures are expected to end Saturday, June 17, at 8 a.m. Motorists are asked to watch for the posted detour signs and to be extra careful with crews working so close to active traffic lanes.
Vehicles heading southbound on I-83 will encounter barrels in the right lane and will not be able to exit at Maryland Avenue, and instead motorists will have to exit at Mount Royal Avenue and detour back.
Vehicles will not be able to enter northbound on I-83 from Charles Street, and will instead be detoured to North Avenue. Northbound vehicles already on I-83 will notice barrels blocking the right lane approaching Maryland Avenue but otherwise will not be detoured.
If further investigation finds that further water main work is needed, left lane closures on the JFX might also be needed.
Traffic on Maryland Avenue will not be affected by any of this work.
