The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark announced today the immediate suspension of all solid waste operations and activities at DPW’s Eastern Sanitation Yard, following a significant number of COVID-19 cases at the facility.

Acting Director Garbark also announced a citywide suspension of curbside recycling collections for three weeks in order to continue essential services following the closure of the Eastern Sanitation Yard. The suspension of curbside recycling collections is effective immediately.

The closure of the Eastern Sanitation Yard Facility, which is located at 6101 Bowleys Lane, is also effective immediately, and is expected to last for three weeks. The facility had been closed to the public since March due to COVID-19.

“DPW is shutting down all operations at the Bowleys Lane Sanitation Facility out of an abundance of caution to protect our solid waste workforce. We are working closely with employees and their families to protect their health during this difficult time,” said Acting Director Garbark.

DPW advises residents who reside on the Eastern side of the City, which receives trash services from the Eastern Sanitation Yard, that they may experience a delay in trash collections due to the closure. Residents can expect all trash collection delays to be resolved no later than Saturday, June 13. Residents can call 311 to report any missed trash collections. 

“We appreciate the residents’ understanding as we mobilize and restructure to ensure that everyone’s trash is collected and disposed of properly,” Acting Director Garbark said.

The Sisson Street Citizen Drop-Off Center, located at 2840 Sisson Street, will be reopened immediately for public use. In addition, DPW is accepting bulk trash items at two locations: Northwest Transfer Station, located at 5030 Reisterstown Road, Monday - Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m. or the Quarantine Road Landfill, located at 6100 Quarantine Road. Monday - Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents can drop off their recycling at one of these three convenience centers.
