Application for a Variance: HERRING RUN GREENWAY HIKER BIKER TRAIL
Project Description: The project has an approximate area of 14.19 acres. The site is located at Herring Run Park, Baltimore, Maryland, beginning at the southern end just south of the intersection of Sinclair Lane and Shannon Drive and extending to the north of Lake Montebello Drive. The project will consist of meeting ADA compliance by flattening the trail in sections to a grade of 5% or less, providing handicap access at intersections and enhancing safety with crosswalks and a pedestrian bridge. Other improvements involve adding a parking lot, replacing a failing culvert and a step pool conveyance system for repairing highly eroded channels.
The Applicant is requesting a variance in accordance with Article 7, §24-1 of the City Code. Although the proposed design satisfies the Environmental Site Design (ESD) volume requirement, the Applicant has requested a variance in consideration that a small fraction of the impervious surface area will not be able to discharge to the proposed ESD practices.
