Thursday Dec 17th, 2015

BALTIMORE – On September 16, 2015, a slow seepage of wastewater was reported to be infiltrating a storm drain line which empties into the Jones Falls. This is located in the 5100 block of Falls Road. Department of Public Works crews responded and investigated the possible causes. The sewer line was dye tested and videotaped. It was discovered that there were cracks in the sewer main.
Repairs to this 10 inch diameter sewer line, and an adjoining manhole, were completed yesterday, December 16, 2015. The leakage was stopped and it is estimated that over 32,000 gallons had escaped into the Jones Falls over the three month period.

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified.

Citizens are encouraged to avoid contact with urban streams due to possible pollution. Baltimore City is in the construction phase of the $1 billion Consent Decree rehabilitation of our sewer infrastructure.
