Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., was honored by the Chesapeake Section of the American Water Works Association with the George Warren Fuller Award, the most prestigious award the group bestows. He received the award Aug. 31, 2017, at the annual Chesapeake Tri-Association Conference in Ocean City.

The award honors a member of the Section for distinguished service to the water supply industry. It is named for an influential water engineer who, in the early 20th Century, promoted the codification and standardization of best practices in the water industry.

Among other recent honors, in June Mr. Chow was named Civil Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers Maryland Section. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Maryland and Delaware, and has more than 30 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry. He is active on the boards and committees of several regional and national water and public works industry groups. Under his leadership, DPW has been recognized as a “Utility of the Future Today,” a recognition program that celebrates the progress and exceptional performance of the nation’s wastewater utilities.

DPW is responsible for filtering and delivering drinking water to about 1.8 million people, and for the safe cleaning of the sewage before it is returned to the environment. DPW also provides comprehensive trash, recycling, and other cleaning services for all of Baltimore, as well as running the City’s energy purchasing and usage in the most efficient, sustainable manner possible.
