DPW Targets Baltimore’s Greasy Hotspots

BALTIMORE (Friday, Aug. 3, 2012) – Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) discharges from dishwashers, sinks and floor drains are major culprits in many costly sanitary sewer backups and overflows. FOG causes residential property damage, environmental contamination, health hazards and expensive sewer line repairs.

In an effort to reduce FOG-related damages, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be aggressively treating a number of Baltimore’s sanitary sewer mains identified as having severe grease problems.   Starting Monday, August 6, sewer lines at the Inner Harbor, Central Avenue, Gough Street, and portions of Highlandtown will be treated...

Residents who enroll in paperless billing by Friday, June 30, will receive the 5% discount.
